I've always want to write a journal about things I've designed, since I have a bad memory and often I cannot remember what I've done.In China, there's a saying "the palest ink is better than the best memory"[好记性不如烂笔头].

I'm not a design major, but I love art. A teacher of my course once said, life includes two dimensions: the useful and the useless. Useful means pragmatic or one can earn money with the job without necessarily love it. On the other hand, useless means one loves the job deeply and can always get happiness in doing it, but it cannot makes him/her earn a living. He said we need to focus on both of these two dimensions, if not, we can neither fly high or far. That truly impressed me.

Last month I took part in a competition about mug designing in our school. I thought having a try is harmless, so I designed a pattern in 2 hours and sent it. The contest was held by a shop which sells souvenirs with our school's logo on it. At the beginning of the semester I took an interview because I wanted to work there but they rejected me, so I wasn't really hoping for a prize. When a friend working in that store told me the director said I deserved to win a 1st prize, I just smiled and forgot that.

However, when the results came, I was astonished. I won the 1st prize. I got 100€ and was accepted as product desinger of the store. I was exilirated, of course. Nothing can make me feel better than my work is praised.

Of course, now I design T-shirts and other stuff for the shop. Not being a professional, sometimes I'm not very capable and cannot design well. But I'm confident about the future. I'll study knowledge about design by myself, which I truly love every minute of it.
